It's Been One Year of Internets - Bad Coffee Edition

I cannot believe I forgot to mention this, but yesterday was the first anniversary of BOTI. BOTI's genesis came from a throwaway paragraph at the end of Slate's Today's Papers section. That passage being this:
The NYT reports that Bhutan is ditching the GDP in favor of a more holistic measure of a nation's prosperity—the GNH, or gross national happiness. The move is grounded in Buddhist doctrine, but comports with the latest psychological research, which shows that above a basic level of comfort, wealth doesn't correlate with happiness. Elsewhere, researchers are trying to come up with indices of well-being based on factors such as mental illness, civility, access to parks, crime, volunteerism, and the division between work and leisure time. As one happiness "campaigner" summed up his mission, "Medieval peasants worked less than you do."
Given that had been working 12 hour days for the previous week, I found that selection incredibly poignant at the time. Add in a couple of throwaway links to Gizmodo and BOTI was born.

Random Trivia: Title of the first email was "A Collection of Awesome Things I Found on the Web Today".

I think yesterday's sever outage was a higher power trying to punish me for pushing this crap on you people.

Nerd Potpourri
- If Soylent Green tastes like bacon then I have no problem with it.
- Teleportation, not just for Star Trek anymore
- Remember those big ass Pentium 2 chip casings? Some dude put a HD in one.
- ATT DSL on the cheap. How does $35/month for 6mbps down sound? I have this service and it (for the most part) rocks. And you wouldn't (and probably shouldn't) believe it but the customer service rocks. Well, it rocks once you get past the Bangalore call center and get to Tier 2 support at least.
- It appears that Nate really likes Wolverine. Almost as much as he likes writing about himself in the third person (check out the URL). I'm willing to bet that Nate doesn't have a girlfriend.

Moving Pictures
- Every Simpsons couch gag from season 16 & 17

Web 2.0hhhh Yeah!
- One of my old coworkers used to call in sick to work for the next day while he was still at the bar. That is... just not so smart. Still, I'm not sure he ever got caught (or if management even cared). He would have been much better served by using Call-in-sick.com's new system.
- If the above happens and the boss does decide to call you on it, make sure to use your one number to rule them all from Grand Central.

Lowest Common Denominator
- I do believe I need to start drinking coffee. Either that or I need to McFly myself back to the 50s.
