I feel like I should clarify the rather glowing endorsement that I gave FNL yesterday. I might have used a tad bit of hyperbole in my description. It's good, but it's not
Wire good. As far as the genre it falls in (Soapy Teen Drama that also involves parents to a certain extent. Now with more sports!), it's certainly the best of the bunch. Plus, the camera work is as good as I said. However the second episode didn't have quite the 'oomph' that the pilot did. (This is kind of strange because it's usually the pilot episode that sucks, but I think this is because the series is created/plotted out by the same guy who did the movie. It's a lot easier to write 43 minutes of compelling television than it is 946 minutes. Anyway...) It's probably because there was no game footatge. A High School football season is, what, 8 games? 10? Given that the season finale
has to be the State Championship, the need to draw that out over 22 episodes basically requires that there'll only be a game in half of the episodes (at best). Regardless, character development is strong and, again, the direction rocks. With a television landscape full of procedural dramas and five and out cancellations, FNL is a worthy addition to your Tivo queue.
Given my position in the advertising industry, sales reps tend to send along the random xmas gift here and there. This year one of my reps sent me a copy of Zagats. For San Francisco. Thanks. What's really odd about this is that the rep is based in Chicago.
On a more important note, my 360 came back from MSFT yesterday.
Bleeding EdgeThe Consumer Electronics Show is this week(end). Expect lots of companies to announce a lot of whizbang shit you can't afford nor really need.
