The Internets Pour One Out - Shopping Edition

While combing the aisles of Jewel for Father's Day related BBQ foodstuffs, I stumbled upon a sixer of  Miller Chill.  By all accounts it should have been terrible.  It wasn't.  It isn't 'real beer' by any stretch of the imagination, but they certainly went down easy while playing 'cornhole' on a 90 degree day   The deal breaker is that it'll probably never be popular enough to warrant cost efficient multi unit packs anytime soon though (Long live the High Life Lite 30 pack!  Yes, I am WT thank you very much).  I'm sure it's not too long before Chill goes the way of 'Miller Red'.  Shit beers (Natural Light, Beast, Mister Brau) aside, Miller Red and Molson Ice were my college beers of choice.  Alas, Molson Ice, like most (all?) ice beers has gone the way of the Dodo as well.

Links

  • I've got no beef with Amazon.com.  They're got  a huge selection, free shipping on orders $25+ and have good customer service.  Likewise, I've never had a problem with Newegg.com.  They're also have a huge (if more vertical) selection and have great customer service.  Prior to our trip, I wanted to pick up a bigger CF card for The Girls prehistoric digital camera (mine predates the mesozic era).  I went to Amazon and got this page.  How the fuck are you supposed to compare products with that kind of layout.  Compare it to Newegg's deep search options and it's wonder that Amazon sells anything at all.
  • The Girl and I finally watched the Sopranos finale on Friday (shut up).  My opinion?  He's dead.  More here.   Related:  Gawker reads a bit too into things
  • A belated happy Father's Day from Durex
  • Blu-Ray for the win?  People still rent movies in stores?  Really?
  • Best. Forum topic. Ever. (Fake?) (Sorta-SFW)
  • I watched Man vs. Wild last night.  It was entertaining enough that I'll watch it again if it's on, but not enough to Tivo on a regular basis

Re: cheap beer, I have found the ultimate.

www.pivovarystaropramen.cz/.../branik

Branik is the hometown homeless favorite. It only comes in 1/2 liter bottles for exactly 6 Czech Crowns. That includes the 3 CZK deposit. Assuming you can manage the cash flow, that comes to 3 CZK per 1/2 liter. At the current rate of exchange, that's 14 cents per bottle.

Some quick calculations:

$0.14 / 1/2 Liter

$0.28 / Liter

$1.06 / Gallon

2.81 Gallons / 30 pack (12 oz cans) - ref High Life snack pack

Branik snack pack = $2.99 / 30, 12 oz cans.

What you save over the course of 25 years will pay for your new liver.

Oh wait, the state will pay for that.
