One of the downsides of working for a giant megacorp is that they tend to lock down the computers tighter than a fourteen year old gymnast's ass. It's virtually impossible to install anything worthwhile without Administrator access. This becomes a pain in the balls when Rhapsody issues one of its ever so frequent software updates. Plus, I'm not really supposed to have it on my computer (a long departed IT person was nice enough to install it for me last). Therefore in order to get the update running I need to go through unofficial channeds. Usually the best bet for this is to go for the newb of the IT group, whoever it may be that month, as I can always say, "Well Dan installed PROGRAM X for me before. Can't you help me out?" This works 99% of the time. Apparently it also has side benefits. One being that the newb IT guy forgot to turn on the 'temporary' admin access that disappears after a reboot. So now I've finally got full admin access over my machine here at work. Yay for small victories. This almost makes up for the relative fossil of a machine that they've saddled me with, but anything that eases up my daily 10 minute boot time puts a little smile on my face.
