I found myself flipping channels last night after I got bored with the Giants/Eagles game. Usually it's fun to watch the younger Manning get sacked (the looks of sheer terror the youngster gives before he goes down are priceless. Actually he always looks terrified, but the pre-sack look really amuses me.), but it was kind of the other way around last night. Anyway, I landed on TCM about half way through 2001: A Space Odyssey. I hadn't seen it since maybe eight grade and I like the sci-fi, so I gave it a whirl. At first I found the pacing.... deliberate, but still kind of interesting. However, after falling asleep about four times in 45 minutes, I've decided that my eighth grade self was correct: 2001 is fucking boring. One thing that sort of qualifies as 'visionary' - Kubrick correctly predicted that the aspect ratio of television would shift from 4:3 to 16:9. He just thought that they'd be aligned vertically instead of horizontally.
This week (I forget which actual day) is BOTI's second anniversary. I waste my time so you can waste your time. Cubs NLDS tickets make wonderful anniversary presents.
